Press Release

Walks of Life continues to celebrate the inspiring women in Singapore, holding up our sky! This exhibition is part of the second book from the “Women Inspiring Women” series photographed and authored by Dr Chua Yang. The book features 101 portraits and stories of women from different walks of life. Dr Chua has donated all her books to fundraise for various charities that are women-focused or have women-led projects. Any donor who donates a cash amount of SGD120 and above to the Campaign will receive a copy of the book for their generosity and support; and will be eligible for tax deductions of 250% the amount of the qualifying donation. All support and donations will mutually benefit both arts charities, Objectifs and The Private Museum.

Dr Chua Yang is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Mount Alvernia Hospital. She is one of the founding directors of Global Clinic, a non-profit organisation that brings healthcare to many under-served communities in the world. Also an avid street photographer, Yang had a solo photography exhibition, The Man Behind That Portrait, at the Leica Galerie in 2021-2022 featuring her father, Cultural Medallion artist Chua Mia Tee in both his work and daily life. In May 2023, she launched Women Inspiring Women—The Home Edition, a photobook of 100 family of mothers and daughters in healthcare, and held her second solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Singapore. The photobook has since raised more than S$120,000 for medical students in need of financial aid. Her works have been selected for the Women In Street Singapore Exhibition at the Singapore Photography Festival 2022.
