Brooklyn Museum will exhibit works by a whopping 200 artists in The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition from 4 October 2024 to 26 January 2025.
The artists were selected following invitations from the Artist Committee—Brooklyn Museum Artist Trustees Jeffrey Gibson, Vik Muniz, Mickalene Thomas, and Fred Tomaselli—and an open call that garnered nearly 4,000 submissions.
Selected artworks include drawings, paintings, assemblages, videos, installations, and sculptures.
‘For years artists have been asking us to organise a big Brooklyn artists exhibition, and now we’ve done it,’ said Anne Pasternak, the museum’s director.
‘Brooklyn has more artists than anywhere, and we are thrilled to expand the ways we support the excellence of our incredible borough,’ she said.
The full list of participating artists can be viewed here.
The opening coincides with the museum’s reinstallation of their American Art Galleries.
The new curation is informed by ‘Black Feminist approaches to care, liberation, and space-making’ and ‘Indigenous and African diasporic ways of seeing and knowing’. —[O]
