Curator Binna Choi will take the lead on Korea’s Pavilion at next year’s Venice Biennale after being selected from a list of 18 candidates.
Choi’s successful proposal involves working with artists Choi Goen and Hyeree Ro to reimagine contrasting spatial metaphors of ‘fortress’ and ‘nest’.
Arts Council Korea described the idea as turning the Korean Pavilion into ‘a monumental space designed to transform the state of social conflict and chaos into dynamic and inclusive kinetic energy’.
Choi previously co-curated the 2016 Gwangju Biennale, the 2022 Singapore Biennale, and the Hawaiʻi Triennial 2025, along with leading the Casco Art Institute in the Netherlands from 2008 to 2023. —[O]
