New Delhi‘s India Art Fair is launching a new fair in Mumbai. India Art Fair Contemporary will present 50–70 exhibitors at Jio World Garden from 13 to 16 November 2025.
The announcement follows last year’s successful launch of Art Mumbai in two tents at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The event was established by Saffronart’s Dinesh and Minal Vazirani, Grosvenor Gallery’s Conor Macklin, and Nakul Dev Chawla, founder of online art sales platform Global Art Hub.
The dates of the two fairs look likely to align with Art Mumbai next taking place from 14 to 17 November, 2024. Dinesh and Minal Vazirani told The Art Newspaper they ‘do not understand the logic’ of the two fairs sharing dates and ‘doubt the business sense of the decision’.
India Art Fair’s Director Jaya Asokan, will also direct India Art Fair Contemporary.
She said the fair was not a response to Art Mumbai but ‘testament to the development of the market, which India Art Fair Delhi has helped build since its establishment in 2008, and the growing influence of South Asia in the global contemporary art and design market.’
Aparajita Jain, Executive Director of Nature Morte gallery, which opened in New Delhi in 1997 and expanded to Mumbai this year, said, ‘India Art Fair Contemporary is coming at the right time to the right city for India’s contemporary art market.’
‘We are glad that more initiatives are beginning —further laying the foundation for art in India,’ she said. —[O]
