Rijksmuseum Announces Major Exhibitions Through 2025

Amsterdam‘s Rijksmuseum has announced three new exhibitions opening from September.
The museum’s big autumn show is Asian Bronze. 4,000 years of beauty (27 September 2024–12 January 2025). The exhibition will feature 75 sculptures from across Asia, stretching from Pakistan to Japan and Indonesia. Works on display will include contemporary artworks as well as bronze mirrors, weapons, vessels, and bells.
Opening on the same day is the latest iteration of Document Netherlands, the museum’s annual commission by a Dutch photographer. Last year, Mounir Raji chose to shoot on cruise ships. This year, Eddo Hartmann‘s photographs of festivals will show through 12 January 2025.
Hartmann was awarded first place in the Sony World Photography competition’s Landscape category this year for his images of ‘The Polygon’, an area in Kazakhstan where the Soviet Union conducted more than 450 nuclear tests from 1949 to 1989.
Commencing next year, the Rijksmuseum will present what they say is the first comprehensive survey of American photography in Europe.
American Photography (7 February–9 June, 2025) will bring together 200 works dating back to the 19th century. Featured artists include Robert Frank, Nan Goldin, and Irving Penn. —[O]
