Chinese Artist Shao Fan Brings His ‘Distinct Visual Language’ to White Cube

White Cube has added Chinese artist Shao Fan to its roster, joining Vitamin Creative Space and Galerie Urs Meile in representing the artist.
The artist’s work will debut with White Cube at Art Basel Hong Kong 2025, where his painting Rabbit 1624 (2024) will be showcased at the gallery’s booth from 28 to 30 March 2025.
Blending traditional Chinese cultural influences with elements of Western art through painting, sculpture, and installation, Fan’s subjects often include animals, fruits, vegetables, and explorations of ageing reflecting Chinese customs and beliefs.
The artist’s first solo exhibition with White Cube is scheduled for spring 2026 at its Mason’s Yard location in London. Shao Fan’s work will also be featured in the upcoming Hunan Timezone exhibition at Hunan Museum, China, opening in February 2025, and in the 15th Shanghai Biennale this November.
White Cube’s global artistic director Susan May was enthusiastic at White Cube about the partnership, saying Shao Fan’s distinct visual language aligns perfectly with the gallery’s ethos of bridging the contemporary and historic.
Shao Fan’s work is held in prestigious collections worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and M+ in Hong Kong.
He will speak in Hong Kong in an artist talk moderated by Diana Campbell, Artistic Director of Bukhara Biennial, on 29 March. —[O]
