1301PE is pleased to announce its third exhibition with the acclaimed Los Angeles based artist Pae White. This will be her first Los Angeles gallery exhibition since her highly acclaimed solo exhibition at the Hammer Museum.
In Periwinkles, White will explore three diverse bodies of work which converge seemingly disparate practices, ideas and themes. She engages multiple perspectives with the use of birdcages, mobiles and graphic design. Through this seductive juxtaposition of diverse materials, content and structure she activates the space and our relationship to it. White redefines contemporary sculpture by injecting the values of a painter peaking ones curiosity first visually, then physically.
White has just received two major commissions: to design the curtain for the National Opera House, Oslo, Norway; the plaza at the addition to the Colburn School of Performing Arts, Los Angeles. She was also commissioned to design the catalog for Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s current blockbuster exhibition Extreme Abstraction.
Pae White was born in Pasadena in1963, where she lives and works.

Pae White’s prolific and diverse oeuvre focuses on the forgotten and ephemeral qualities of everyday life. Exploring different material forms and contexts, White’s practice is known for blurring the traditional and often nebulous boundaries between the fine and applied arts, architecture and design. Whether in the form of sculpture, site-specific installations, tapestries, animation, or painting, White’s works subverts viewers’ expected relationship to familiar objects, processes and spaces.
