Spinae | Duri is a solo exhibition by FX Harsono, presenting the theme of 'the majesty and beauty of ancestral culture and the suffering that must be endured.' Raised as a Catholic, FX Harsono found metaphoric similarities between the story of the trial of Jesus Christ and the regulations imposed to the Chinese community in Indonesia during the New Order. The ideas and thoughts took form of boats, crowns, and thorn reeds, accompanied by visuals and objects found during his (ongoing) research on the identity of the Chinese-Indonesian in cultural, historical, and social context.
