Born and raised as a Balinese, Suanjaya Kencut grew up with a routine of making sesajen, a Balinese tradition of offerings that is considered sacred. Sesajen is made of various elements, of which each element carries specific meaning that relates to the conversation or connection that one wishes to reach the Divine. In a glance each element seems abstract. Once they are compiled into a sesajen, it becomes a whole, as if each element is connected, chanting the same prayer.
Baik Art is pleased to present Suanjaya Kencut’s solo presentation, Pop Fractal, presenting works on how he views the world, how we are made of tiny pieces, separated and segmented. Here the artist tries figuratively closes the distance, hoping to establish the longed connection.
In November 2022, BAIK ART opened its third location in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the inaugural exhibition titled Tumpeng. This new expansion can be traced back to BAIK ART’s residency exchange programme with Indonesian arts institutions and artists and aims to deepen a dialogue between Indonesian and global art scenes.
