In In Chaek (2024), Yongjae Lee explores hwacheop (Joseon-dynasty painting albums), emulating the dry-brush (galpil) technique of master calligrapher Kim Jeong-hui (Chusa). Having grown up without inherited paper artifacts due to his family losing their possessions in the Korean War, Lee fabricates a fictional heirloom that might have been passed down in an alternate past. Ultimately, he extends this personal act of myth-making into the future, presenting time as a single, continuous sequence.
