We are delighted to present internationally acclaimed Danish, Berlin-based artist, Jeppe Hein’s first solo exhibition in Sydney titled, ‘Some see a Balloon, Some see a Wish’.

This exhibtion features pivotal artworks by the artist, including his renowned coloured Mirrored Balloons and evocative neon texts displayed behind two-way mirrors. Hein is celebrated for his experiential and interactive art, situated at the confluence of art, architecture, and technological innovation. His work is distinguished by its formal simplicity and frequent humour, engaging with Minimalist sculpture and Conceptual art. Hein’s pieces are designed to immerse spectators, emphasising their experience and perception to foster positive interaction and playful engagement.

Rooted in Eastern philosophy and spatial recombination, Hein’s work challenges and renews sensory perception. His installations offer a unique realm of experiential simultaneity, inviting viewers to reflect on their surroundings and interactions. Hein describes his work as a means to enhance sensory awareness, stimulate dialogue, and encourage social interaction. His art aims to create joyful and empathetic moments, fostering a deep connection between viewers and their environment.

In Australia, Jeppe Hein has exhibited at the following art institutions; The National Gallery of Victoria (2016), Perth Institution of Contemporary Art (2010) and the Art Gallery of New South Wales (2005) and he was commissioned for a major public art installation at Forrest Place, Perth in 2012.

Jeppe Hein (b. 1974) studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen and the Städel Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt a. M. MOMA, New York (2004) among others. He participated in La Biennale di Venezia’s 58th edition in 2019 and 50th edition in 2003. In 2022 he received the Carte Blanche by Maison Ruinart.
