For this 2022 edition, Dumonteil Contemporary exhibits three artists: the Indonesian Budi Agung Kuswara, the Korean Sung Pil Chae and the Chinese Lin Guocheng. We want to show works related to the tradition of each artist’s country. The common thread is therefore to be able to give free rein to a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional subjects and aesthetics. Each chosen artist, through their techniques, succeeds in transforming, modifying and even transcending subjects specific to their history and culture.

Budi Agung Kuswara’s paintings are inspired by Kamasan painting, a traditional Balinese style of narrative painting, once used mainly to decorate temples on the island, but also the homes of the aristocracy.

Chae Sung-Pil Korean artist born in 1972 in Jindo, learned calligraphy and traditional painting from his grandfather from his childhood. His compositions reveal in the abstract work a strong landscape dimension, chaos between waterfalls and mountains, in a renewed and unprecedented filiation with classical Asian pictorial culture.

Lin Guocheng Chinese artist born in 1979, in the province of Guangdong is a Chinese artist known for his magnificent landscapes drawn with a fountain pen.

Lin’s unique language merges the artistic traditions of East and West defying the integration and collision of these two systems.
