GALERIE GMURZYNSKA will feature 3 highlighted sections
Fernand Léger: Major Paintings from the 1920’s and 1930’s
Curated Juxtaposition: Donald Judd and Kazimir Malevich
Representing the Estate of Matta: Important Works form 1940’s and 1950’s
The paintings of the quintessential 20th Century master Fernand Léger will be featured with a curated selection of rarely seen major works of unique art-historical significance in an especially designed setting.
A special focus will be given to an homage of a 1994 Judd / Malevich exhibition at Galerie Gmurzynska, with its reincarnation curated by Flavin Judd, the son of Donald Judd. The exhibition that will be on view in the gallery’s newly opened space at Talstrasse 37 in Zurich and parts of this Judd / Malevich juxtaposition will be shown at Art Basel, thus underlining the respectful entanglement of the 1960s minimalist with the still contemporary and transgressional Russian Masters of pure abstraction.
Additionally, Galerie Gmurzynska is proud to announce the representation of the Estate of Roberto Matta, some of whose seminal historical large scale pieces from the 1940’s and
50’s will be featured at Art Basel. Adding such an important estate to Galerie Gmurzynska’s roster follows the gallery’s scholarly tradition supporting the oeuvre of major modern and contemporary figures, who distinctively shaped the course of art during the 20th and 21st centuries.
The installation at Art Basel will further consist of an overview of the gallery focus featuring the works of Yves Klein and Louise Nevelson whose estates Galerie Gmurzynska has represented for many years, as well as works by Joan Miro.
