Galerie Urs Meile is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Chinese artist Cai Dongdong at both of our gallery spaces in Lucerne and Zurich. As an artist who takes photography and installation as his major creative media, re-creating based on ready-made photographs, either taken by himself or collected by him, has always been Cai Dongdong’s main approach. Aiming at the complex cultural aspects behind, he brings ‘photography’ into the intricate, problematic field of the image history or image-making history, discussing issues such as the essence of presentation and the power dynamic of viewing. This exhibition will focus on some of the most iconic photographs and installations from his work series A Game of Photos from recent years.

About the Artist

Cai Dongdong’s creative practice was based on manual intervention and treatment to the “ghost pieces” in photography. The daub, accumulation, tearing, grinding and even add a series of wonders to the finished products and became the expansion of image itself and the lenovo of properties.

About the Gallery

Since its establishment in 1992, Galerie Urs Meile has contributed to the presentation and dissemination of contemporary art, from painting and sculpture to photography, installation and video. The gallery is working from two locations: Lucerne (Switzerland) and Beijing (China). While its center of operations is based in Switzerland, the Beijing gallery has established itself as an international meeting place for collectors, curators, artists and aficionados of the arts.
