Jeremy Everett Biography

Born in Colorado, USA in 1979 and based in New York, Everett is a mixed media artist whose practice encompasses video and painting. With an initial degree in Landscape Architecture, Everett traversed into the making of art by completing a MFA at the University of Toronto. Everett was exposed in the formative parts of his early career to raw space, the vibrating yet contemplative existence elicited by bare earth. He is inspired by artists exploring the relationship between land and art such as Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer.

Everett’s work stems from a centre of intuition and subtly evolves beyond process and creation; neither never fully created not complete, its significance is in its evolving state between beauty and decay. The resulting work has translucent qualities; they shimmer, glean, and glisten, while encouraging a contemplative engagement that challenges how you look at yourself, and how you view your surroundings. Everett’s work is hypnotic, transcendental and disturbing whilst simultaneously pervading a mesmerising quality. It does not spell out what you should see but rather opens your mind to numerous transformative possibilities.
