Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1968. Earned his master’s degree in sculpture from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1995. Tanada continues to carve human figures using ichiboku-zukuri, a traditional Japanese woodcarving technique involving a single block of wood. His works explore the spaces between adults and children, humanity and nature, individuals and society, existing on these boundaries while evoking a sense of limitless expansion. Awarded the 30th Hirakushi Denchu Prize in 2022.
Executive Director Sueo Mizuma established Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo in 1994. Since then, the gallery has continuously presented artists from Japan and, increasingly, from the surrounding region whose works demonstrate distinctive sensibilities, unaffected by fleeting stylistic trends.
