KON TRUBKOVICH
b. 1979, United StatesNew York-based artist Kon Trubkovich (b. 1979) mines a combination of found film footage and home movies from his childhood in the USSR to create his paintings and works on paper. Through a process of isolating, fragmenting, and enlarging, Trubkovich has developed a unique visual vocabulary for exploring his own history and more universal aesthetics of memory. His distortion of various sources is on one hand a way of exploring the unfixed nature of history, memory, and identity, while at the same time tackling the painter’s dilemma between the illusory conventions of figurative painting and the subjectivity of color and form in abstraction.
