P21 is pleased to present Choi Taehoon's solo exhibition, FIELD (Part 1), from 9 June to 1 July 2023. In this first part, he will showcase an experiment where both gallery spaces serve as a support and transform into immense sculptures. SAL is Choi's formative language, encompassing muscles, skin, and bones. Just as the artist's use of urethane foam as a mass self-inflates and takes shape, the concept of SAL also grows organically. FIELD builds upon the artist's previous experiments, blending ready-made objects and urethane foam to establish an organic connection between space and sculpture. Following the traditional practice of attaching clay to wire armatures, P1 and P2 serve as the frameworks for the artist's sculptural process.
Choi Taehoon (b.1982) received his BFA and MFA in Sculpture from University of Seoul. He has held solo exhibitions at GCS, Seoul (2022); Ohsisun, Seoul (2021); Post Territory Ujeongguk, Seoul (2020); SeMA Storage, Seoul (2019); and participated in group projects at various institutions and gallery including Buk-Seoul Museum of Art (2022, 2014), Culture Station Seoul 284 (2021), WESS (2021), Museumhead (2021), Perigee Gallery (2020), Aram Nuri Art Center (2016), and more. And he was selected as a resident artist at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (2019), MMCA Residency Goyang (2016), SeMA NANJI RESIDENCY (2014).
