STATION is delighted to present_Twenty 25_, Séraphine Pick’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery.
Séraphine Pick is widely regarded as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most significant painters and was recently named a 2025 Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Laureate. For more than three decades, Pick has explored the complexities of perception, working through figments of memory and positioning the body as a site of consciousness within her painting practice.
In Twenty 25 Pick presents a new suite of paintings that meditate on the arrival of a moment once imagined as distant and speculative — now realised and charged with presence. Drawing on her continued interest in memory, these works turn towards a complex present, shaped by digital image culture and a pervasive sense of temporal dislocation.
Twenty 25 illustrates Pick’s enduring sensitivity to instability within her paintings, privileging moments of ambiguity in which meaning remains unfixed and is continually renewed. The included works occupy a space of tension while offering a sustained and sensitive declaration of presence within our loaded contemporary moment.

Séraphine Pick’s original and imaginative practice has made her one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded painters. Having emerged at the beginning of the 1990s in association with the ‘Pencil- case Painters’, a group of Ilam graduates, Pick’s career has evolved alongside a significant shift in the way we create, share and consume images. Often turning to the internet for source imagery in an attempt to study the nature of human behaviour, Pick is drawn to subjects in states of am- biguity, transfiguration and transcendence. Working primarily in oils and watercolours, Pick has become known for her particular brand of off-beat and hazy surrealism, combining atmospheric dreamscapes with conventions of traditional portraiture.
