Press Release

According to the Chinese legend of ‘The Nine Sons of a Chinese Dragon (龍生九子)’, the dragon had nine sons. But they were not dragons; instead, each had the appearance of a different beast. Although these nine mutant dragons could not become dragons, they lived among humans and shared the joys and sorrows with them, acting according to their respective appearance and character.

Like the nine dragons in the Chinese legend, mutation or hybridity is a major feature of Yeesookyung‘s art. The pieces of ceramics carelessly discarded by potters are no longer pottery, but Yeesookyung collects the fragments and attaches them piece by piece with gold to awaken the strong vitality hidden in the frailty of fate.

This exhibition was organised to shed light on Yeesookyung’s multifarious art, encompassing three-dimensional, two-dimensional and digital works. We invite the audience to a mysterious and strange land created by the artist, who continues to transform and expand toward a new dimension of creativity.
