White Cube Mason’s Yard is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, comprising new paintings and a site-specific installation.

Known for her densely layered compositions, Milhazes’s practice spans painting, collage and intricate sculpture. Poised between rational structure and spontaneity, her work lies at the intersection of European and Brazilian modernism.

About the Artist

Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes’s practice includes painting, drawing and collage. Characterised by sensual colour, optical movement and energetic visual cadences, her abstract work fuses a diverse repertoire of images and forms. Combining elements from her native Brazilian culture with European abstraction, her colourful, densely layered works are held in a state of tension, balanced carefully between order and chaos, rational structure and spontaneity. Often pushed to their compositional limit, with cascading, proliferating forms overlaid across the canvas, her paintings seem at a point of collapse, ready to engulf the viewer in an explosion of form and colour.

About the Gallery

An international art powerhouse, White Cube was established in 1993 in London by art dealer Jay Jopling. In its space on Duke Street, it served as the early exhibition venue for many now internationally acclaimed British artists, including Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George, Rachel Kneebone and Antony Gormley, who still show with the gallery today.
