The Swiss object artist and draftsman Alfonso Hüppi is one of the most important representatives of the post-war avant-garde and postmodernism. His work is situated between the surrealist humor of André Thomkins and the concrete aesthetics of Max Bill.
Alfonso Hüppi’s extensive oeuvre is initially characterized by everyday materials. In his wooden objects and works on paper, which in their brittle sensuality represent experiments in form between abstraction and figuration, a self-reflexive work on the concept of the image becomes apparent. Hüppi creates unconventional works ranging from spontaneous hand drawings to sculptural wall paintings.
