Mountford lives and works in Melbourne.
Arlo Mountford works primarily with large-scale interactive installations that integrate sound, video and animation. His digitally animated films feature a dizzying assortment of famous artists, iconic artworks and events from the history of art mixed with an almost equally generous array of pop culture references. Infused with humor and irony, Mountford's work re-navigates art history, and explores the contextual relationship between contemporary art practice and its perceived past.
Mountford has presented solo exhibitions at Dubbo Regional Gallery, New South Wales (2012); La Trobe University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2011); Shepparton Regional Gallery (2010); Centre of Contemporary Photography (2009); The Art Centre, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand (2009); Conical, Melbourne (2008); and Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne (2007).
He has also been included in numerous group exhibitions, including: Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Victoria, 2013; Forever Young: 30 Years of the Heide Collection, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, 2012; Panarama, Casula Powerhouse, New South Wales, 2012; The Social Life of Things, Monash University Faculty Gallery, Melbourne, 2012; Unguided Tours: Anne Landa Award for video and new media arts, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 2011; 21st Century: Art in the First Decade, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, 2011; NEW010, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2010; ShContemporary: Best of Discovery Asia Pacific Contemporary Art Fair, Shanghai, 2008;Contemporary Australia: Optimism, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, 2008; and 21st Century Modern: 2006 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia.
