Ben Sleeuwenhoek’s works are a reflection on our perception of reality. He takes an intellectual approach, rejecting the myth of the inspired artist who channels a divine message. By consciously referring to spiritual painters, such as Mondrian, he uses painting and images as tools to explore the concepts of reality and representation. In this quest, he honours both the senses and the intellect, and attempts to determine to what extent our lives are a constellation of conventions and illusions.
