Byun Sanghwan's artworks are strongly constrasted with two color: green and red. The green period mainly consisted of painting green urethane for roofhtop aterproof pain tn floral foam, and during red period, anti-corrosion paint was applued to section steel weighing about 15 to 30kilograms and pressed on paper at regular intervals. In addition to the contrast of colors such as green and red, the wight of the material used and the way it is handled are diffrenet. Unlike the green period, which was disuised as solidity by covering aterproof urethane on the surface, the red period would require adjusting force in a diffrent sense to accurately press the heavy steel beam. The artist, who used to present a solid and hard form with soft and light materials, is now presenting a delicate and accurate image with heavy and firm materials. It is as contrasting as green and red color contrast.
