CAMILLA TADICH
Camilla Tadich is a Melbourne based artist. Tadich graduated from the Victoria College of the Arts (Melbourne) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) in 2006.
A survivor of the Victorian Black Saturday fires in 2009, Camilla Tadich’s personal experiences led her to create works that reflect on the unease of darkened spaces and the unprecedented capabilities of nature. Tadich paints haunting images of Australian landscapes by night. Tadich ventures into the night searching for the perfect compositions and light in photographic expeditions that directly inspire her work. The artist explores landscapes that transform in the dark and in doing so, reveals the disquieting characteristics of uninhibited nature.
Recent solo exhibitions of the artist’s work have included In the Shadows at This Is No Fantasy + Dianne Tanzer Gallery, Melbourne (2012); Slabalong at Sophie Gannon Gallery, Melbourne (2010); New Paintings at Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne (2007); and Silent Space at Alliance Francaise de Melbourne, St. Kilda (2006). In 2010, she participated in the NotFair Satellite Art Fair in Melbourne. Tadich has been a three time finalist for the Nilumbik shire Art Prize and the recipient for the People’s choice award for the Fletcher Jones Prize in 2008. Her work was included in the Bushfire Australia exhibition at the TarraWarra Museum of Art, Victoria (2010).
Camilla Tadich was featured in the book New Romantics: Darkness and Light in Australian Art (2011) by Simon Gregg.
