Dragutin Banić (b. 1979, Remscheid, Germany) is a contemporary artist whose practice encompasses sculpture, installation, and conceptual projects. Banic studied Fine Arts at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig under Walter Dahn and has been awarded numerous grants and residencies supporting his work in Germany and abroad.
Banic’s work investigates materiality, humor, and the quotidian, often exploring the intersection between personal memory and collective experience. His projects frequently engage with the absurd, playfully reinterpreting everyday objects and spaces to create immersive, thought-provoking environments.
He lives and works in Cologne. Banic has presented solo and two-person exhibitions including Karussell (with Marie Henin, Kunstraum K634, Cologne, 2025), Dragutin Banic (Museum Keramion, Cologne-Frechen, 2025), PICKNICK (Galerie Martin Kudlek, Cologne, 2024), and Ultraviolett (with Patrick Niemann, Z3 Contemporaries, Schwäbisch Hall, 2022). His work has also been included in group and curated exhibitions such as Über den Zaun (DOD Gallery & THK Gallery, Cologne, 2025), Die Grosse NRW (Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, 2022), and Sculturale la Sussecciva(Conzenhof, Cologne, 2021).
Banic has received residencies and awards including WIP-Dragutin Banic at Museum Keramion (2024–2025), Neustart Kultur Arbeitsstipendien (2021–2023), and an Arbeitsstipendium from the City of Cologne. His practice is documented in exhibition catalogues, press publications, and project archives.
Banic’s work continues to explore the interplay between humour, material experimentation, and social context, offering audiences reflective and immersive experiences that transform the familiar into something simultaneously playful and profound.
