Jang Hyojoo Biography

Jang Hyojoo (B. 1988) questions today’s visual experience, which is primarily conducted through the screens of cell phones and monitors. Through her experimental sculptural works, Jang explores the gap between the experience of encountering digital images and the real world. The unfamiliar images she presents by combining sculptural materials and everyday objects function as a portal between the virtual and real in her works, allowing viewers to perceive sculpture in a new light.Jang Hyojoo graduated from Kookmin University with a major in sculpture and studied in the Meisterschülerin program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Following solo exhibitions in Munich in 2021 and Seoul in 2022, Jang was selected as the artist for G Gallery’s 2024 edition of Great Exhibition, a program to foster emerging artists, and will be holding her third solo exhibition, Invisible to the Naked Eye. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including those at the Ulsan Art Museum, DOOSAN GALLERY, WESS, and the Münchner Stadtmuseum, and her works are in the collections of the Ulsan Art Museum and Artothek & Bildersaal.
