Juan Stockenstroom is a South African artist, born and raised in Cape Town, as from 1982. Stockenstroom started out working in the medium of photography and digital art, but after several years, he found it to be limiting, and so made the courageous decision to abandon the medium and to explore bolder expressions. In 2018, he started working in painting, finding this medium more expansive and far more suitable for exploring the themes and ideas his work are concerned with.
Read MoreStockenstroom explains, "My work is informed by my upbringing and experiences as a person of mixed race (termed "coloured") and heritage in apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa. I extract from my life experiences to create my work. Both historical narratives and present-day life play a part in what I create, almost in the theatrical sense - I focus on the characters and leave the stories up to the viewer's imagination."
