Liu Dan (born in Najing, 1953) is a living master of ink painting. From a very young age he studied Confucian classics, poetry, and calligraphy with his grandfather. As an adult he contiued to study traditional painting at Jiangsu Academy of Chinese painting, and in 1981 he moved to the United States where he stayed for 25 years. His early years of study coupled with his time in the west formed his very personal style.
