MARY LOU PAVLOVIC
Mary Lou Pavlovic was born in Canberra in 1965. Completing a Bachelor of Arts in Painting, at the Canberra Institute of the Arts in 1989, she moved to London in 1992 to undertake a Master of Fine Arts at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Mary Lou has lectured in visual art throughout the UK and at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne from 1996 – 2007. She has completed a number of important artists residencies, including a private residency with Tate Tokyo Residence Project Director, Johnnie Walker. In 2011, the artist will commence research for a PHD in Fine Art at Monash University for which she has been awarded a three year scholarship.
Mary Lou takes an active role in organising strategic, political exhibitions and events, and views this as a vital part of her practice. The artist curated the group exhibition Fallout, at VCA Gallery in 2001, and in 2002 brought British art critic Matthew Collings to Australia. In 2002 she set up her floating art museum PavModern in conjunction with Modular Records. PavModern hosted the 2004 Jake Chapman Lecture Tour and also coordinates public art works.
