Nezir Akkul (Çepo) Biography

Çepo (Nezir Akkul), (1983, Diyarbakır) conceptualizes political themes through painting, focusing on the relationship between nature and humans. Çepo emphasizes the continuity of form and figure in his visual compositions, while also reflecting the memory of the events that have occurred in the region he lives in. By reshaping the landscapes he witnesses from a socio-cultural perspective, he conveys these processes through visual narratives. Rather than focusing on natural phenomena, he addresses the city dominated by political processes and the traces of this city in collective memory, creating an independent visual space.

After completing his bachelor degree at the Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education, Dicle University, Çepo pursued a master’s degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Artuklu University. Some of the solo and group exhibitions he has recently participated in include: “Snowblind” at Zilberman Istanbul (Istanbul, Turkey, 2024), “Rising waters, radiating lights” at Zilberman Istanbul (Istanbul, Turkey, 2024), “Tepenin Ardı” at Merkezkaç Art Gallery (Diyarbakır, Turkey, 2022), “Lâmekân” at the Mardin Museum Art Gallery (Mardin, Turkey, 2019), “CHIMERA” at Siena Art Gallery (Muğla, Turkey, 2017), “3rd International Mardin Biennale” (Mardin, Turkey, 2015), and “Kalan” Amed Art Gallery (Diyarbakır, Türkiye, 2015). Çepo, who continues to produce and live in Diyarbakır, has been teaching painting since 2015.
