Oda Tungodden (born 1992 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian painter based between Bergen, Norway, and Cape Town, South Africa. With a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Bergen and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art, her work is concerned with exploring the intricate web of factors that shape our perceptions and narratives.
While rooted in figuration, her painterly work extends beyond traditional boundaries, incorporating spatial and relational practices. At the core Tungodden’s work is an exploration of the human experience. Through her artistic practice, she aims to create spaces for meaningful conversations, fostering empathy and connections within individuals and between people. Tungodden is interested in engaging conversations across different cultural and geographical boundaries.
Tungodden’s practice increasingly extends beyond the flat surface into collaborative, organizational, and educational projects. She is the founder of Studio E39 in Bergen and the co-founder of platforms like Open Loop and Cape Town Life Drawing. Alongside her studio practice, she serves as a lecturer at the Art Academy, University of Bergen, and frequently facilitates community art workshops across both Europe and South Africa.
Tungodden has garnered international presence, with notable exhibitions and art fair presentations spanning Europe and Africa, including presentations at the VOLTA Art Fairs in Basel. She is a member of the Norwegian Association of Painters (LNM). Following a presentation at Enter Art Fair 2026 with THK Gallery, Tungodden will open a solo exhibition at Kristiansund Kunsthall, Kristiansund Norway.
