In his frenzied video, K-CoreaINC.K (Section A), Ryan Trecartin (b.1981) creates a satire of global corporate culture. His characters, dubbed ‘Koreas’, are exaggerated stereotypes of the everyday office worker. They don blond wigs, office-casual wear and powder their faces, which Trecartin calls ‘workface’. Devoid of linear narrative, the video depicts characters in bizarre but strangely recognizable scenarios acting in ways that subvert our expectations of the business world. This K-CoreaINC.K (Section A) is just one part of seven videos that together comprise Trecartin’s epic Any Ever series. At the very young age of thirty Trecartin already has mounted solo exhibitions in such prominent institutions such as MoMA P.S.1., New York, NY; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA and Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Austria, and distinguished himself as a prominent artist of the younger generation.
