"When you are painting there is a meeting point between the reality of the material world and an internal world. It is the flux between these two points that interests me” Simon Blau
Read MoreSimon Blau’s work allows us to ponder the nature of painting as an action and painting as an object. While Blau’s works nods toward the history of painting and particularly abstraction, they also speak emphatically of the ability of paintings to transcend the reality of themselves as objects. They tackle notions regarding the nature of existence, materiality and immateriality. Each work is like witnessing Blau’s trails of thoughts, his intentions and decisions.
Born in 1952, Blau lives and works in Sydney. He has been exhibiting since the 1980s and his work is held in numerous public collections including The National Gallery of Australia, The National Gallery of Victoria, Wollongong City Gallery and Artbank as well as corporate and private collections including The Baillieu Myer Collection of Contemporary Art, Melbourne.
