Siti Ruliyati worked across a range of two-dimensional media, from pencil drawings and watercolours to oil paintings. Her lines are light and agile, her brushstrokes strong, tense, and often assertive, yet her compositions remain remarkably gentle.
A graduate of ASRI’s first cohort, Ruliyati consistently assert her affinity with ordinary people and everyday life throughout her oeuvre. Her drawings were widely published in magazines, such as Budaya Jaya, Indonesia, and Zenith. She sustained her livelihood through her art: Painting, drawing, and teaching at the Sekolah Seni Rupa Indonesia (SSRI, Indonesian Visual Art School), selling postcards and greeting cards, and running painting classes.
