Tania Marmolejo Biography

Tania Marmolejo Andersson, a Swedish-Dominican American artist, was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1975. Her distinctive Caribbean heritage and Scandinavian roots have greatly influenced her approach to creating contemporary art. Tania studied graphic design and illustration in Norway before returning to the Dominican Republic to pursue fine art at the Altos de Chavón School of Design. In 1998, she earned the Bluhdorn Scholarship, allowing her to continue her education at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, where she graduated with a degree in Fine Art and Illustration in 2000.

Marmolejo Andersson’s work combines the intimate and personal with the monumental, as she crafts large-scale paintings featuring enigmatic female portraits. Her oil paintings delve into themes of women empowerment, gender, and identity from the perspective of a Scandinavian-Caribbean female artist. Through her captivating portraits, Marmolejo Andersson connects with viewers on an emotional level, eliciting a powerful empathetic response while celebrating the unique aspects of her Swedish-Dominican heritage.
