TJUNGKARA KEN
Tjungkara Ken is a member of Tjala Arts, an Aboriginal owned and operated art centre in the far north of South Australia. She is renowned for her extraordinary canvases that depict her traditional country in the local area.
Ken is one of the few true colourists working in desert art centres. To her, painting is as much about describing landscape as it is about pushing her understanding of colour and how subtle shifts in tone change the dynamics of the visual whole.
Ken has exhibited throughout Australia and is represented widely in public and private collections. Her work was chosen for the dust jacket for the Art Gallery of South Australia's catalogue “Desert Country”, a major touring survey exhibition of the development of Indigenous art from the central and western desert regions. Ken has been a Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards finalist.
