Tomohito Ushiro Biography

Born in 1971 in Tokyo, Tomohito Ushiro enrolled in the department of Graphic Design at Musashino ArtUniversity Junior College of Art and Design in 1991 and then transferred to the department of VisualCommunication Design in 1993. In 1995, he joined the advertising company Hakuhodo Inc. which heleft in 2008 to establish his own company WHITE DESIGN, where he is still active as a creative directorand art director today. Since 2011, Ushiro has been creating artworks based on a concept he developedduring college: “hard things, soft things” and “the collapse of an image and its stages caused by thestraightening of curved organic lines through the reduction of its points.” In the same year, the artistreleased his video work 〇〇X and his sculptural work Shake Bear. From 2019, following Hiro Sugiyama’sadvice, Ushiro began his art career in earnest and presented his installation work BALLOON at WAVETOKYO hosted by Sugiyama, photographic work BALLOON/PUBLIC PRESSURE in 2020, and sculpturalworks BALLOON/PINK and BALLOON/BLUE in 2021. His sculptures MATTRESS/STRIPE andMATTRESS/FRUITS were featured in HILLS ZINE MARKET 2021 ART & ZINE
