The practices of Wan Yang extend the frontier of abstract painting via the interrelationship among computer, painting, and digital image. In “Metal” series, Wan firstly utilizes approaches that simulate real brushes and creates a model in 3 D software. Then, it is processed by computer into vector image in color patches. Afterwards, following this blueprint, the artist draws with dozens of color depths and innumerable vector lines in a delicate, complex, time-consuming process. The profound literacy in music grants Wan Yang’s abstract paintings rhythm, tempo, repetition, gradation, and development, stretching and deepening the aesthetics of these musical notes.
