This year brings numerous notable upcoming exhibitions and events in the city's contemporary art spaces.
The following notable 2023 exhibitions took place in Auckland. Auckland's Starkwhite gallery hosted the work of Australian artist, Jonny Niesche in a solo exhibition entitled You say sfumato, I say sfumato. The exhibition not only celebrated Niesche's artistic talent but also encouraged viewers to re-evaluate their understanding of perception, boundaries and the interplay between light and colour. By bridging the gap between past and present, Niesche's exhibition served as a thought-provoking exploration of art's ability to transcend time and connect with audiences on a profound level.
Among other upcoming exhibitions, visitors could also discover the contemporary art exhibition entitled Tamatea - Dusky Sound 1995 on display at the Two Rooms artspace. This presentation included works from four artists who attempt to capture some of the art history in New Zealand.
