Art Osaka 2026 Returns with Expanded Venues
13 May 2026, Osaka

ART OSAKA 2026 returns from 28 May–1 June with an expanded two-venue format that explores contemporary art in Japan through the lens of Osaka and the Kansai region.

Founded in 2002, ART OSAKA is one of Japan’s longest-running contemporary art fairs, known for its strong regional identity and connections across East and Southeast Asia. This year’s edition brings together more than 60 galleries from across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and beyond, highlighting practices that span generations and geographies.

The fair unfolds across two contrasting venues: the Galleries Section at Grand Green Osaka in the rapidly developing Umekita district, and the Expanded Section at Creative Center Osaka, a former shipyard known for large-scale and experimental presentations. Together, they offer a dialogue between market-oriented presentations and site-responsive installations.

A special exhibition, Another 1990s—Kansai Artists Beyond Time, revisits practices shaped in the Kansai region during the 1990s, offering an alternative perspective on postwar Japanese art history.

Alongside the fair, major museum exhibitions and independent art spaces in Osaka contribute to a wider celebration of contemporary art. Positioned at the intersection of history, experimentation, and urban transformation, ART OSAKA 2026 presents a timely perspective on contemporary art in Japan and Asia today.
