ART OSAKA 2025: Celebrating 23 Years with Inaugural Screening Programme
By ART OSAKA – 28 May 2025, Osaka

Established by prominent galleries in Osaka in 2002, ART OSAKA is a leading fair in Asia specialising in contemporary art. In addition to the traditional galleries section, this year’s edition introduces the Must-See Screening Programme, which traces the evolution of Japanese moving image works from the 1960s avantgarde video art to contemporary practices.

The Screening Programme will be presented on the first floor of Osaka City Central Public Hall with four curated programmes, ranging from filmed interviews by director Taki Kentaro to moving image works by artists Fujimoto Yukio, Fukuoka Michio, Hori Kosai, Imai Norio, Matsui Chie Shirai Mio, Muraoka Saburo+Kawaguchi Tatsu+Uematsu Keiji, and Morimura Yasumasa.

ART OSAKA 2025 will host 63 galleries from 4 countries, including 6 first-time exhibitors. Participants in the ‘Galleries’ section include Tokyo-based galleries EUKARYOTE and AISHO, which also has a space in Hong Kong, and Kyoto-based gallery COHJU.

In the ‘Expanded’ section, dedicated to large-scale works, installations, and new media, participating galleries include biscuit gallery + AWASE gallery, Gallery Kogure, Mori Yu Gallery, and Tezukayama Gallery. Tomio Koyama Gallery will present Fly, a 3.6 metres-tall installation by the avantgarde artist Yoko Ono.
