Press Release

Yunchul Kim is an alchemist turned physi-chemical provocateur. He seems to bear the brunt of modernity’s quintessence. As an artist with a philosophical penchant for the most current, he is both old-school and ultra-modern. In his intricate laboratory work with rocks and metals, recently also biological agents, churning them into micro-substances and unspeakable elements that can only be extrapolated in particle physics and electro-magnetic fluids that have dipolar charges to fire up otherworldly sensations and spiritual meditations all at once.

Elliptical Dipole: Visceral Particles and Sorcerous Flows curated by Zhang Ga, marks Yunchul Kim’s first solo exhibition in China, and his largest to date. The exhibition not only presents his most representative works from different stages of his career but also highlights his experimental new creations. Entering the imaginary material world of the artist and resonating with the boundless universe, untying the never-ending knot of polarity in the mesmerising image of Elliptical Dipole.
