The thematic painting exhibition of YANG Ding Xian – When the Sun Comes Shining Through, draws inspiration from topics of natural environment and the protection of spiritual environment, which have garnered much attention from around the world in recent years. Meanwhile, the artist combines the meanings of the twenty-four Chinese solar terms to convey the importance and positive meaning of life. By deconstructing and reconstructing Chinese characters denoting the solar terms, he transforms the characters into 'Chinese script flowers' to deliver the vitalness and positiveness of life. These works portray the inner states of an individual's life. Although they change in different stages of life, the varied states of mind can become mutually integrated, bringing about the natural beauty. The seasons in life are reminiscent of the cycle of the solar terms: Through a biting, frosty winter, there comes the resolute, unyielding beauty in blooming abundance. The title of the exhibition is thus echoed: When the sun comes shining through after a storm, a rainbow will subsequently appear.
