Hauser & Wirth will open a new gallery in Paris near the Champs Élysée on 14 October 2023.
'The opening of our Paris gallery is the realisation of a long-held dream, one we've shared with our artists since the founding of Hauser & Wirth 30 years ago', said Hauser & Wirth President Marc Payot.
Hauser & Wirth already has an impressive 17 locations worldwide—including spaces in Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Monaco, and Hong Kong—but the Paris gallery will be its first in France.
The gallery's roster features several Parisienne artists including Louise Bourgeois and Pierre Huyghe, as well as artists profoundly influenced by the city's art scene such as Takesada Matsutani, Ed Clark, and Alina Szapocznikow.
Payot added, 'We are excited to become an active participant in Paris and to contribute to this vibrant city we love so much'.
The inaugural exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Paris will be a solo show by Los Angeles artist Henry Taylor.
Taylor—whose career survey opens at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York on 4 October—will produce new artworks for the exhibition during a Paris residency in June and July.
The show will explore the artist's broad practice, honed over four decades, which spans painting, sculpture, and installations that reflect his personal perceptions of the people and communities around him.
The same day Hauser & Wirth announced its expansion to Paris, Paris-based gallery Perrotin revealed they are negotiating the sale of a 60 percent stake in the business to Colony Investment Management, which would allow for expansion beyond the seven cities in which Perrotin already operates.
'We need to boost our activities throughout the world and conquer new geographies,' Emmanuel Perrotin told Bloomberg. —[O]
