Sadie Coles’ New Mayfair Gallery Affirms Commitment to London

London gallery Sadie Coles HQ is opening a new Mayfair location in a Georgian townhouse on Savile Row this autumn—its tenth West End location since its establishment in 1997.

Owner Sadie Coles called Savile Row ‘one of the most iconic streets in the capital’ and said the new location demonstrates the gallery’s ‘commitment to London’.

The gallery, which represents artists like Ugo Rondinone, Sarah Lucas, and Nicole Eisenman, is closing its long-time Davies Street location, one of three sites it has operated alongside spaces on Kingly Street in nearby Soho, and a smaller site on Bury Street.

Its new restored Georgian townhouse location will include three galleries, a bookshop, and private quarters across 6,000 square feet. Between 1870 and 1952, the building housed the Burlington Fine Arts Club, a member’s club and meeting place for artists and collectors.

The site will offer ‘something distinct’ to exhibition options for the around 60 artists the gallery represents, Coles said.

Sadie Coles isn’t alone in establishing a new Mayfair branch this year, with galleries like Perrotin, whose first London location will open inside the five-star hotel Claridge’s from March, and Asia Pacific gallery Ames Yavuz on the way. —[O]
