Victoria Siddall Named Director of National Portrait Gallery

The board of London‘s National Portrait Gallery (NPG) has appointed Victoria Siddall its next director, a decision that was approved by the Prime Minister. Siddall will take up the post this autumn.
David Ross, Chairman of the Trustees of the National Portrait Gallery, London, said Siddall’s ‘strengths as a cultural leader are considerable, as is her knowledge of the art world, understanding of audiences and international profile.’
Starting in 2015, Siddall was Global Director of Frieze during a rapid expansion that included the launch of Frieze Masters and fairs in New York, Los Angeles, and Seoul. More recently, she co-founded the environmental charities Gallery Climate Coalition and Murmur, and worked as an advisor to Tate.
Siddall said, ‘this is perhaps the most exciting time in the NPG’s history, following the recent reopening and Inspiring People project that the team delivered so flawlessly under Nicholas Cullinan’s leadership.’
Cullinan, who worked as a guard at the NPG as a student before leading the gallery from 2015, left to become Director of the British Museum in June.
The National Portrait Gallery’s next exhibition, Francis Bacon: Human Presence, opens on 10 October. —[O]
