These two canvases by painter Amani Lewis at Salon 94 were an exciting discovery at Art Basel Miami Beach yesterday, where there was a noticeable emphasis on emerging talent.
Some major Rothko paintings stood out at David Zwirner and Nahmad Contemporary, as well as a more subtle presentation of Andrew Cranston with Frank Walter at Ingleby.
New York-based 47 Canal was also showing some great works by Janiva Ellis, Nolan Simon, and Anicka Yi.
Overall, the fair seemed back in full swing. Pre-booked time slots ensured a relaxed feel and a great atmosphere throughout. Major international collectors were in attendance, no doubt aiding the strong sales reported from most galleries on the opening day.
