Trenton Doyle Hancock has put on a masterful show at East London‘s Hales Gallery.
Raised in Paris, Texas in an all-American household governed by Christian ideals, Trenton Doyle Hancock became enamoured with popular culture of the 1970s and 80s, including movies, comics, and toys.
Now living and working in Houston, this latest exhibition of Hancock’s is built around his richly imagined universe based on a set of characters, including the artist’s alter ego ‘Torpedo Boy’.
Hancock’s wonderfully distinct style, defined by colour-popping canvases decorated with miscellaneous textures, such as bottle caps, felt, and fur is on full display at Hales Gallery, and well worth seeing if you get the chance.
